White Nexus 4 On June 10th

As early as October 2012, tech journalists discovered the LG Nexus 4 by way of a Carphone Warehouse LG smartphone list. The inventory list said that the LG Nexus 4 would be black (the only color provided), and gave the correct features and specs of the smartphone. In the days and weeks leading up to Google I/O, tech writers were certain that we would get a taste of Android 4.3 as well as a major update to the LG Nexus 4.

Google I/O this year, however, disappointed those who expected to see a major OS update such as Key Lime Pie (Android 5.0) or a Nexus 5. Tech writers had already observed Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as the next update to Android 4.2.2, so the KLP rumor had been squashed weeks ago; rumors about the Nexus 5 emerged, but nothing was confirmed.

At the same time, however, a mysterious Nexus smartphone appeared in photos across the web: Vietnamese site Tinhte showed a white Nexus smartphone similar in appearance to the Nexus 4, and it was assumed that LG would produce a white Nexus 4 to accompany the black version. The white Nexus 4 appeared on a Canadian carrier website with the words “Coming Soon” in white in front of a pink background. Many tech writers believed that the white Nexus 4 was likely a phone for Google and LG employees. Skepticism about the possibility of a white Nexus 4 was pervasive.

Hindsight is always 20/20 vision, and we now have evidence that what we thought was a white Nexus 4 and on its way to the Google Play Store is true, after all. Google did not reveal the coveted Android update or the white Nexus 4 at Google I/O, but sources say that Google intends to reveal the new white smartphone along with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on June 10th.

Android 4.3 is an incremental update, so it makes sense that Google chose not to announce its coming advent. As for the white Nexus 4, rumors in recent days claimed that Google would provide a Nexus 4 LTE version this year – an updated version of its 2012 model. Unfortunately, there is no LTE on board with the white model, so LTE lovers (or HSPA+ haters, it’s all about perspective) will be forced to live with the Google Edition GS4 until 2014.
