Install Facebook Home on any Android Phone

Facebook’s much-awaited Home launcher for Android finally landed on Google Play Store on 12th April. However, it disa
ppointed many people as it wasn’t supported for many device. Most devices are practically not supported while others could not install because of not being in a supported country. But as long as you’re on Android, the openness is literally unlimited.

Still not sure how Facebook Home works and what features it has? Check out Facebook Home Explained.

An XDA Developer have already come up with a modified version of Facebook Home that lets you install and experience Facebook Home on whatever Android phone you have. Yes, your phone does not have to officially supported nor do you have to live in the US to experience Facebook’s new home for Android. Let’s check out how to install Facebook home on your Android.

Install Facebook Home

As XDA Developer puts it in the original thread, you will have to first uninstall any existing Facebook application such as Facebook Home (if you installed it somehow only to see it’s unsupported), Facebook app, Facebook Messenger, etc. There comes the question of root.

Is Root Needed?

Practically, you don’t need a rooted phone to install this modified Facebook Home. But if your phone does not allow you to uninstall Facebook application, then you’re in a problem and you will need to root your phone to force remove the Facebook application. If you’re using a phone that’s not rooted, drop us a line and we’ll show you how to root.

After you’ve removed any Facebook application from your Android phone, download this modified Facebook Home, Facebook Messenger and install them simultaneously. Remember that you need to enable Unknown Sources if you have’t installed apps via direct apk file before.
Choose Facehook Home from below Facebook App settings.
By now, you should be running Facebook Home. A device restart maybe needed in some case. If it’s performing slow, reboot into recovery and wipe dalvik cache.

Please note that Facebook Home may not give a good performance since it wasn’t optimized for whatever device you’re planning to install it on. Facebook Home is currently optimized for a limited number of high end devices. This modified version allows you to just install and see how it feels to have a Facebook phone (such as HTC First) at hand.

Have you been able to install Facebook Home on your device yet? Let us know in the comments below.
